Marcel's Syrah
Marcel's Syrah aka, RV Syrah. 2013
Sourced from Rancho Voladores high in the Adelaid of Paso Robles' westside. a 7 acre vineyard surrounded by Oak and pine. Trellised on a high quad cordon and let to sprawl with 11 foot alleys. The grower, George Perham, has a fantastic vineyard that produces smaller clusters or smaller berries than is the norm for most Syrah. This creates a more intense wine due to the small juice to skin ratio. Great sunlight flecks all the grapes hanging under the canopy that has perfect sun exposure. Up Niderer Road past a secure gate and behind Deer fencing Rancho Voladores has a cooler temp that other areas of lower westside and eastside vineyards.
Handpicked at 40°F morning, trucked down under dry ice to keep the grapes cool and then crushed and cold soaked for 2 more days before fermentation. a 11 day fermentation with del Estage, vigorous punch downs to get oxygen in the fermenting must and pressed of at 2bar.
Aged in Hungarian oak as an experiment, this wine was bottled in 2015, and left in the cellar until June 2017.
Marcel's Syrah is like Marcel, full bodied, bold in flavor, robust finish! Pepper and plums on the nose give way to deep dark sherries. In the mouth the soft texture of fine tannins bathes the tongue while the flavors of cured meat, plums, dried apricot are intertwined. the finish is long and flavorful. The weight of the liquid belies the muscular, robust finish that hangs on forever. This is great wine with strong flavored meats, lamb, Game meats, brisket and it is very nice to sip on it's own before or after a meal. The wine speaks to those that enjoy a Syrah that has the ability to hold it's own in a crowd.
Drink now and until 2023
